Glithero
Glithero is the creative partnership of Sarah van Gameren and Tim Simpson. Working at the intersection of design, craft and conceptual art, the duo creates objects and installations born from meticulous experimentation and material innovation. Both trained as designers, they graduated from the Royal College of Art, London, in 2008.
Since then, their practice has evolved across media, focusing on the creation of singular works that integrate artistic inquiry into everyday life. Their approach often reconsiders traditional techniques and materials, revealing unexpected narratives embedded within process and form.
For the Vessels series, Glithero applied a photographic process directly onto ceramic vases. Reflecting on the work, they note: “We are interested in the idea of photography as an object, and in the tradition of vases as narrative tools, like ancient Greek amphorae depicting myths and stories on their surface. A vase both contains and carries; it is itself a vessel. The fragility of the material was important, as it echoed the fragility of the subject: the life of the plants we used is equally delicate.”
